After just about a year, we picked up the toolset again and remade market street, which is likely all we'll have of the city of Nexus presuming we open up the module again. We're much happier with what we have now over what we had before.

Marmera: the beginning

Marmera is a valley near Hoa, at the foot of the Juralian Mountians. In the heart of the valley lie the ruins of Marmera, a citadel built by a group of adventurers nearly two hundred years ago. The adventurers cleared the valley of the resident monsters, but could not drive them from the mountains. As they grew old and eventually died, the monsters attacked the castle and brought it to ruins. Now, Marmera is mainly visited by adventurers seeking the great fortune rumored to lie within the ruins or the monster lairs in the nearby mountains. Many who travel into the valley never make it back.

This is the safest portion of the valley -- the shore with its campsite sheltered in the ruins, and an easy escape by ship. The ruined dam once made a small pond, but now the water spills through the broken stones on its way to the sea

In The Hrumani Crypt

Adventurers exploring the Hrumani crypt, the resting place of the legendary lion-folk of Gardal. The Hrumani once lived in this part of the city, but abandoned Nexus during the Age of Strife and returned to their homeland. No ships that have sailed to Gardal have returned with living people on board.

The Torian Gate

The Torian Gate is one of the internal walls left from the Age of Strife. This wide area of the road from the docks to the Council Plaza has become a place for merchants to peddle their wares and scholars and scribes to offer their services to the many residents and citizens of Nexus.

A bard on the docks. This is a screenshot taken during testing, showing a PC with a cool hat and a lute. We haven't set up the play-a-song-&-perform scripting, but if yo're holding the lute and do the bard song, you play the instrument, so that's pretty neat.

In the background you can see a couple of the merchants that sell on the docks, and the south gate. I've figured out most of the issues with merchants, which were a little baffling at first.

Welcome to Floud's Dock. I borrowed the name because I couldn't think of anything else. This is the latest version of this area.

This is the "swashbuckling" land we've come up with. Hoa is the nearest port to the Nexus gate, and is in an otherwise uninhabited area. It is at the point of the peninsula. To the west are Montepulciano and La Fontaine. To the north is the Grand Duchy of Pontevedra, and then Berossos. This is a "vegetation" map produced by Fractal Terrains, a companion to Campaign Cartographer.

Grelnor (Jason) has volunteered to work on Berossos. I am interested in Hoa and Pontevedra, plus some ruins in the lands nearby. We have the "Italianate" Montepulciano and the "French" La Fontaine to work on is anyone has a particular interest in either. We'll probably develop a new map to use as the actual world map.

Colors:

Light Green: Tropical Deciduous

Orange: Tropical Shrubland

Salmon: Savannah

Medium Green: Temperate Forest

Tan: Temperate Grassland

Blue-Grey: Boreal or Alpine Forest (Coniferous Forest)

Olive: Chaparral

Light Grey: Tundra or Alpine

You can do a search to find most of these through Google. This site has some basics.

This is the first screenshot from NWN2. The "steps" are now gone since they didn't work, and I've done more work with it since I took this shot. For example, it was pointed out to me that there was no city wall, which there should be. It is now at the crest of the hill where the road goes straight. I also added a little set of benches by the dock and lamp posts up the hill.

I think it turned out ok for a first try. We may or may not use this in the module itself, but it was a good learning experience.
